Royal Hotel Comrie
The Royal Hotel Comrie is a traditional boutique hotel. It is situated in the very charming village of Comrie – which is the gateway to the west coast from Perthshire. The hotel has a good reputation for excellent food, a very warm welcome and relaxed but refined decor. It is due to have a refurbishment in 2020, but it's still very much worthy of a stay. Or do pop along for lunch or dinner if you are close by, you’ll be greeted by hospitable staff and a beautiful fireside spot. It’s also perfect for an afternoon pint and a relaxed read of the paper, or book ahead for a special afternoon tea. The hotel is also dog friendly. All of these changes will be overseen by a new manager (as of January 2020). Rhys Turner, former Hotel Manager at the esteemed Monachyle Mhor Hotel has joined the team as General Manager which has brought new life to this village hotel. Quite often these Scottish village centre hotels are a little grotty with bad décor - but when I walked through the doors of the Royal Hotel, I was delighted by the beautiful traditional classic décor and big fires burning away. Bestowed its name by Queen Victoria on a visit with John Brown, over the years this old coaching inn dating back to Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Days has played host to many famous guests including Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands and Sarah Bernhardt the famous actress. This independently owned hotel has been run by the Milsom Family team for the past twenty years, and with the refurb, they want to bring this boutique beauty up to date with a refresh. I can’t wait to see this new chapter in the hotels history unfold. I’ll post fresh pictures as I get them. Comrie really is very picturesque place. I was there in October 2019. It is a conservation village with a white church building at its centre and a river running through it, close to beautiful Loch Earn. There are a few shops and cafes, with the very interesting Cultybraggan Camp Business Centre on the outskirts. It’s worth looking in on the Comrie Croft Tea Garden in Summer, and take a browse in Be Coorie interiors shop if you get excited about Scottish interior decoration. Of course, the other major draw of coming to Comrie is the stunning scenery all around. This is a place for a relaxing break in the heart of Perthshire - whether fishing, walking, playing golf, sightseeing or just de-stressing from your usual hectic pace of life, The Royal offers a unique Scottish experience. CHIC SCOTLAND EXTRA: Mention Chic Scotland on booking and receive a bottle of fizz in your room on arrival. How very civilised.
